Cochin Shipyard blast kills five, injures ten on ship under repair

Cochin shipyard blast killed at least five people and injured many when a tanker exploded on a ship under repair in Kochi on Tuesday.

The Cohin shipyard blast took place at around 10:45 AM on Tuesday morning when an onboard Sagar Bhushan, a Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) drilling ship was berthed for repair.

It was found that two people were trapped inside the ship and rescue operations are being carried out to rescue them. Eleven persons have been evacuated from inside the ship and the injured persons were rushed to various hospitals for treatment.

Police and fire and rescue personnel rushed to the shipyard for carrying out the rescue operations.

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is the largest shipbuilding and ship maintenance facility in India.
