Delhi teenage girl drowns in Adelaide beach on her way to Pacific School Games

Delhi teenage girl who was on her way to Australia to take part in Pacific School Games got tragically drowned off Adelaide beach after the games were over.

The deceased girl was identified as Nitisha Negi and her family was very much excited to return back Delhi on Monday after the Games was finished. She was a bright student in studies and also proficient in athletics.

The girl’s family faced a tragic situation when they were informed that their daughter has gone missing during their trip on the Adelaide beach.

Her parents on seeing Nitisha Negi at IGI Airport on November 30 thought that she would have a bright future as a football player. But tragic struck their family as she could not return back home safely.

Nitisha Negi called her father Puran Singh Negi on Saturday and said that all the matches were over and they were preparing to come home. On Sunday evening they were informed that the girl was missing on Adelaide beach and after few hours they came to know that she is no more and was drowned at Adelaide sea.

Nitisha Negi was studying Class XI at Rajkiya Sarvoday Kanya Vidyalaya in east Delhi and their house if filled with medals and certificates she was awarded. She spent many years in athletics and became a football player four years ago.

Puran Singh Negi said that the office of the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj got in touch with them on Monday and promised all support. The family also received a call from the girl’s team coordinator about the tragedy on Monday who is still in Adelaide. He added that they were told about some girls including their daughter went into deep sea while taking selfies and did not notice high waves and were carried away. A search operation was carried out to locate her daughter’s body.

The local media in Adelaide reported that Australian government would bear expenses of transporting Nitisha’s body to India. The girl’s father said that they could not take care of their daughter and want strict action against them.

The members of the Indian hockey team rescued four other girls from the sea and were admitted to a hospital. They are now out of danger. One of the girl Yukti Verma of Ahlcon Public School Mayur Vihar is a team mate of Nitisha and Yukti’s father said that his daughter was inconsolable over Nitisha’s death and has not stopped crying.
