Garbine Muguruza defeats Venus Williams in Wimbledon 2017 women’s finals

Spanish star Garbine Muguruza defeated veteran Venus Williams in straight sets 7-5 6-0 in the Wimbledon 2017 women’s finals on Saturday.

The victory marked a maiden title for the 23-year-old Garbine Muguruza who decimated the 37-year-old Venus Williams in the second set. To her credit, Venus Williams turned out to be the oldest finalist in Wimbledon since Martina Navratilova in 1994.

The world no.15 ranked Garbine Muguruza’s won nine games in a row to deny the world no.9 Venus Williams from winning a fifth Wimbledon title following a one hour and 17 minutes long contest.

Although it was an easy win for Garbine Muguruza in the Wimbledon 2017 women’s finals, she had to fight hard to win the first set that was closely contested at 7-5.

However, in the second set there was no stopping at all for Garbine Muguruza from clinching her second grand slam title after the French Open 2016.

Interestingly, Garbine Muguruza’s opponent in the French open 2016 women’s final was Venus Williams’ younger sister Serena Williams.

The Wimbledon 2017 women’s final was the second final in the esteemed tournament for the Spanish tennis star Garbine Muguruza who had lost the 2015 Wimbledon final against Serena Williams.
