England collapsed rather dramatically, losing eight wickets for eight runs, falling to Yuzvendra Chahal, who finished with fantastic figures of 6 for 25, and Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up three wickets. The latest loss meant they ended up losing the T20s after having earlier gone down in the ODIs and Tests, which they lost 0-4.

Speaking about the shock loss, Eoin Morgan told reporters, “I can’t put my finger on it. We haven’t produced a batting performance as bad as that in two and a half years. We pride ourselves on our batting and it’s been our strong suit for a long time but our bowlers have outperformed our batters.”

India were aided by half-centuries from Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, as well as a brisk cameo from Yuvraj Singh, which enabled them to cross the 200 plus mark. In reply, England were at a decent position at 119-2. They could have pushed for a win, but Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Eoin Morgan (40) and Joe Root (42) off consecutive deliveries to turn the game. After that, the collapse that followed was something unheard of before in the T20 format.

“We committed the cardinal sin of losing two in players in one over and the allowed India to build pressure. We weren’t up to it at all. It’s really disappointing,” said Eoin Morgan.

He was rich in his praise of India though. “Take your hat off to India. They played well and put in a performance worthy of winning the series. We weren’t good enough to win this series,” Morgan went on to add.
