Oppo plans industrial park in Greater Noida with $216m investment
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo is planning to set up an industrial park with manufacturing unit in Greater Noida with an investment of $216 million.
Oppo is eyeing to increase its share in the booming smartphone market in India through this infrastructure investment.
Its new industrial park which will come up on a 1,000 acre land is expected to complement Oppo’s current manufacturing operations in Noida. The company revealed that it will be signing an agreement in this regard at the end of next month.
Oppo India president Sky Li has been quoted by NDTV saying: “Unlike many other companies we do not pursue high volume of shipments or scale of our enterprise…but we focus on creating strong products for users…We are creating a trend for the industry and many are following our footsteps on the selfie functionality. Our positioning (in the market) is correct and precise, and that is giving credit to our market research.”
Sky Li is also Oppo vice president as well as managing director of international mobile business.
Oppo’s manufacturing unit in Noida began production in July after being set up with an investment of Rs 1000 crore ($15m).
The smartphone maker earlier stated that it was planning to employ 1000 people for its production unit by the year end.
Besides, Oppo is also setting up a Surface-mount Technology (SMT) centre which is currently being furnished and slated to be ready in February 2017.
Oppo exuded confidence on its position in the Indian market based on the strength of its Selfie Expert smartphones among other products. The company intends to channelize on user experience for making further inroads in the Indian smartphone market.
Sky Li further revealed that Oppo will be recruiting local software and mobile internet development teams. The company already has manufacturing and marketing centres and also a testing group for its India operations.
In late November, Oppo launched the upgraded Oppo Selfie Expert F1s priced at Rs 18,990 and aimed at making user experience faster besides giving additional storage for capturing selfies.
