Pakistan batsman Zubair Ahmed dies after being hit by bouncer

In a shocking incident, Pakistani batsman Zubair Ahmed was hit on his head by a bouncer and lost his life when he was playing a domestic match at Mardan.

Zubair Ahmed had played four List A matches and represented Quetta Bears, a T20 team. He was hit by a bouncer on his head on August 14 and was hurt as he did not wear a helmet.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed Zubair Ahmed death news and stressed on the need to wear the safety gears all the time during matches.

PCB wrote on its twitter saying: “Tragic death of Zubair Ahmed is another reminder that safety gear i.e. helmet must be worn at all times. Our sympathies with Zubair’s family”.

In a similar incident, Australian batsman Phillip Hughes had died after he was hit on the neck by a cricket ball during a domestic match at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2014.

Australian opener David Warner was forced to retire hurt as he has a blow to the side of his neck by a bouncer from Josh Hazlewood during Australia’s intra-squad match at Darwin yesterday.
