Telugu NRI couple Umamaheswara Rao, Sitha Gita killed in Ohio plane crash

Ohio plane crash : A Telugu NRI couple named Kalpatapu Umamaheswara Rao and Sitha Gita Kalapatapu who were doctors by profession died after their private chartered plane crashed in Ohio last Saturday.

The news of the Ohio plane crash was revealed by police only on Wednesday as it took time to trace out the missing plane which was piloted by Kalpatapu Umamaheswara Rao himself.

As per media reports, it was a Piper Archer PA-28 aircraft which had only two passengers in the pilot Dr Kalpatapu Umamaheswara Rao and his wife Dr Sitha Gita Kalapatapu, residents of Logansport.

Believed to have crashed on July 8 between 10:36AM-12:30PM, the plane was located in an abandoned pond in southeastern Ohio near the Beverly village. It is learnt that the chartered plane was just a couple of miles away from landing at the airport when the mishap happened.

There was no news yet on the reason for the Ohio plane crash which is still being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Hailing originally from the Andhra Pradesh coastal town of Machilipatnam, Kalpatapu Umamaheswara Rao and Sitha Gita Kalapatapu had left for the US forty years ago where they became well settled. The couple even own a chain of clinics named as Raj Clinics which maintains offices in Logansport, Lafayette, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Kokomo.

Dr Kalpatapu Umamaheswara Rao was also a highly talented photographer who had won several awards for his photography. The doctor couple had a good reputation with their patients including local Americans.
