Twenty bodies recovered after Patel dam bursts in Kenya causing huge destruction

A dam burst in a Kenyan town caused huge destruction and deaths after weeks of heavy rain and a government official said that twenty bodies have been recovered so far.

The dam gave way in Solai, in Nakuru county which us 190 km northwest of Nairobi, late on Wednesday.

The water led to the huge destruction of both life and property. The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertaind

Lee Kinyajui, the governor of Nakuru said: “The water has caused huge destruction of both life and property. The extent of the damage has yet to be ascertained”.

The local television channel, KTN News said that 20 bodies were recovered so far. Kenya Red Cross said that it has rescued 39 people as of now.

Kenya like other East African countries has been experiencing heavy rain since last two months. The government on Wednesday said that the rain had killed 132 people and displaced 222,456 in 32 countries since March.

Volunterrs search for the survivors in the residential area after Patel dam burst its bank at Solai, 40 kn north on Nakuru, Kenya on Thursday.
