UEFA Champions League 2017 : Argentine football star Lionel Messi scored his 100th European goal to help Barcelona defeat Olympiacos 3-1 in the Group D match at the Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona.
FC Barcelona held on to victory in the rain-hit UEFA Champions League match in spite of having only 10 men for half of the game following a red card slapped on Gerard Pique.
The Catalan football team having won three matches in a row, opened their account thanks to a blunder from Olympiacos defender Dimitris Nikolaou who diverted a cross from Gerard Deulofeu into his own net.
Just before half-time, Gerard Pique was ousted from the ground by the referee after he handled the ball into the net to get his second yellow card, thereby leaving FC Barcelona with a player short.
In the 61st minute, Lionel Messi scored his milestone goal with a curling free-kick to consolidate Barcelona’s lead in the UEFA Champions League match.
The match was more or less sealed when Lucas Digne scored the third goal for Barcelona.
All the Greece-based Olympiacos could do was to narrow down the margin of defeat through a last-minute goal from Omar Elabdellaoui.
